Do I have to make sense

I'm told that I need to talk slowly and repeat what I say so the person who has dementia can understand. But I don't always do that. I think that sometimes it isn't what you say. You just talk because that's what you do when you are with someone. The person who has dementia can just be aware of the sound of your voice and the tone. Just as that person may no longer know what is said when attending a religious event. I like to think the sound of the music, the prayers and other traditional religious ceremonies provides comfort even though the why is forgotten.
