People stop talking

Have you noticed that people stop talking to someone with dementia. I see care staff with a person who has dementia and nothing is said. Or they talk to another carer to fill the silence. Sometimes the person with dementia still knows what is said. Or could if worded correctly. I've sat feeding a person with dementia and I'm the only one in the room talking even though there are a number of people feeding and being fed. You don't always have to talk but at least ask if the person enjoyed the meal.
