Elder Abuse: Should carers have a register?

Years ago I heard a carer started working in a nursing home. Other staff didn’t want to work with him, but did not say why. He finished his work fast and preferred working residents who had dementia. Not everyone could cope with the behaviours of some people who had dementia. The person may take longer to shower or dress because he or she might wander away. The carer left after only a few weeks. Odd he would leave so soon. Then I heard he had been fired. Another carer walked into a resident’s room to find him hitting her on the incontinence pad to make her move faster. So he left, but he could just go to another home and start again. Now the home would involve the police, but it is still not easy to track carers because they do not have a professional body.
