Just say Good Morning

Nursing homes once had six beds to a room. On my first day at the home, I pushed my medication trolley into the men's room. Carers in the room worked in the dim morning light. Nobody saying anything. In silence, the men got out of bed with help. everyone knew what needed to happen so no one believed they had to talk. Everyone knew the routine. Well I was new and I needed light to give out the meds. So I turned on the light which seemed to surprise those working away. I then said in a very loud voice, "Morning Everyone". Almost everyone looked up from what their work . Then I continued to break the silence as I worked my way around the room. I ask the name of each man, and how did he take his tablets. Then I negotiated with the person taking the medications to swallow the meds. Other people started talking to each other and others said "Good Morning". The best way to start the morning, say "Morning".
