Mates

He likes to sit with the other two in the sitting room that caught the morning sun. Each one finds their own way to their seats. He sits in the red chair and they take the other two chairs. I never see them talk to each other except to say “A lovely cup of tea.” All three mostly respond to questions asked. Is it only us who see them as friends? We say things like “Oh your friend won’t be here today, it’s just the two of you”. Did it answer a question not asked? So there sits the doctor, the gardener and the guy who used to work in the garage. Three mates sitting in the sun.
